Creator: I. Cruikshank (engraver); W. Maynard (publisher) 'Captain Richard Pierce Etch'd by I. Cruikshank from an original sketch by a friend of the captains'. This appears to be a portrait of the captain of the Indiaman 'Halsewell', who heroically remained on board, and died, with his daughters and other female passengers unable to attempt escape from the ship's wreck on the Dorset coast in January 1786.
