Scotland view by satellite - United Kingdom seen from space: United Kingdom seen by satellite Sentinel-3A on 9 May 2016 - The recently launched Sentinel-3A satellite takes us over the United Kingdom, in this false-colour image acquired on 9 May 2016 - Made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, the UK is an island nation in northwestern Europe - At the top centre of the image, we can see aircraft contrails - water vapour condenses around the small particles in the aircraft exhaust to form ice crystals - The result is the formation of an elongated cloud-like condensation trail in the sky, unmistakable in the centre of the image - At top right, some snow cover in southern Norway is still evident. At bottom right, part of the Netherlands with the unmistakable 700 sq km Lake Markermeer is clearly visible - In the southern North Sea/English Channel, an algal bloom is distinguishable in shades of light blue and green.
