A copy after a painting by Raphael (Urbino 1483 Rome 1520) owned by François I, King of France (Cognac 1494 - Rambouillet 1547) and now in the Louvre Museum, Paris. The Madonna, clothed in a rose-coloured robe and with a blue cloak over her right shoulder, kneels to pick up the Christ child, who holds onto his mother, one foot on the ground and the other still in the cradle. Behind him are the Infant St John the Baptist, Saint Elizabeth and two angels, one of whom holds a coronet of flowers over the Madonna's head. St Joseph sits in the background on the right, wearing an orange cloak and with his left hand resting on his chin.
