Salvador Guillermo Allende Gossens (June 26, 1908 – September 11, 1973) was a Chilean statesman. He was President of the Republic of Chile from November 3, 1970 until his death.
Salvador Allende's government, backed by the left-wing coalition of Popular Unity parties, is trying to establish a non-violent and legal socialist state, the "Chilean road to socialism", through projects such as the nationalization of keys to the economy and agrarian reform.
