Cephee Constellation - Constellation of Cepheus - At the bottom left, the constellation Cassiopee; at the top, the bright star is the polar star. Cepheus is a representation of King Cepheus of Ethiopia, who has stellar connections, being husband to Cassiopeia and the father of Andromeda. It is a large northern constellation of 588 square degrees, 27th out of 88 in size and is best seen in the early evening in November. It is distinguished by having two unusual stars that are easily seen. Delta Cephei is the prototype for an intrinsically bright class of regularly pulsating variable stars whose period of variability is closely related to their absolute magnitudes. The brightest stars have the longest period, so distance can be estimated by measuring the period and the apparent magnitude of a star. And these stars are bright, so the method can be extended to nearby galaxies. Mu (u) Cephei is an extremely red, irregular variable star easily seen in binoculars. This too is a prototype, of a class of stars known as semi - regular variables
Summer Sky, Cassiopee Constellation - Summer Starry Sky, constellation of Cassiopeia - To the north - east, the constellation Persee to the left of the tree; Cassiopee and its W shape is higher. Glue at the top right of the tree, the great galaxy of Andromede M 31. Then following the lactee route, the constellation of Cephee. August 18, 2009. Top left is Cepheus constellation with Lacerta to its right; in the middle Cassiopeia constellation, with the great galaxy of Andromeda to its right; bottom is Perseus. August 18, 2009

Lactee route between Cephee and Cassiopee - Cepheus to Cassiopeia - This rich area of the northern Milky Way stretches from Cepheus on the lower left to Cassiopeia on the upper right. Numerous bright red emission nebulas, dark nebulas and star clusters can be seen. The large emission nebula IC 1396 is in the lower left corner, next of Herschel's Garnet Star (Mu Cephei). Open cluster M52 and the Bubble Nebula, NGC 7635, are at the right center of the frame. At the lower right is a pair of large emission nebulas, CED 214 (Sh2-171) and NGC 7822. Large open cluster NGC 7789 is at the upper right corner, about two and a half degrees from Caph (Beta Cassiopeiae). Other red emission nebulas in the field are: Sh2-132, Sh2-142, Sh2-155 (the Cave Nebula), and Sh2-157
Nebula NGC 7129 in Cephee - Reflection nebula NGC 7129 in Cepheus - Nebula by reflexion located 3300 years - light of the Earth. This nebula houses very young stars, aged less than a million years old. NGC 7129 is a star forming region located in Cepheus constellation, 3300 light years from us. Several Herbig Haro objects are visible in this nebula. Herbig - Haro objects are small emission nebulae found around young developing stars (protostars) and which are believed to be transient in their nature, for they only exist for a few thousand years

North celestial pole and circumpolar constellations - North celestial pole and circumpolar constellations - The northern celestial pole is marked by the polar star of the Little Bear. Around, the so-called circumpolar constellations with from top to bottom: The Great Bear on the left, the Dragon that encircles the Little Bear, Cephee below and the Swan on its right, then Cassiopee snaps everything against a big rock. May 20, 2007, Ploumanach (Cotes d'Armor - France). Pole star Polaris (near the center of the image) and circumpolar constellations; from left to right and top to bottom: Big Dipper, Draco with Little Dipper, Cygnus, Cepheus and Cassiopeia. May 20, 2007, Ploumanach (Cotes d'Armor - France)
The Summer Triangle - Starry sky - Summer triangle - Star trails - The Summer Triangle; Dened du Swan, Vega de la Lyre and Altair de l'Eagle. Also visible are the constellation of the Fleche, the small constellation of the Dauphin (at the raz des rocks), on the left, Cephee, and on the upper right Hercules. May 20, 2007, Ploumanach (Cotes d'Armor - France). The summer triangle (Deneb in Cygnus, Vega in Lyra and Altair in Aquila). Sagitta, Delphinus (at the bottom), Cepheus (left) Hercules are also visible. May 20, 2007, Ploumanach (Cotes d'Armor - France)

Around, the so-called circumpolar constellations with from top to bottom: The Great Bear on the left, the Dragon that encircles the Little Bear, Cephee below and the Swan on its right, then Cassiopee snaps everything against a big rock. In overprint, the mythological forms of these constellations, extracted from the Uranographia of Hevelius. Constellation mythological forms from “” Uranographia”” star atlas by Hevelius (1690) have been added. May 20, 2007, Ploumanach (Cotes d'Armor - France)
Nebulae B175 and VDB 152 in Cephee - Dark nebula B175 and reflection nebula VDB 152 - Located about 1400 years ago - light in the constellation Cephee, a large dust trail leads to a bluish nebula. This is the dark nebula, Barnard 175, which faces the nebula by reflexion VDB 152 (Ced 201). The reflection nebula vdB 152 is really very faint. It lies about 1400 light - years away, along the northern Milky Way in the constellation Cepheus. Near the edge of a large molecular cloud, pockets of cosmic dust in the region block light from background stars or scatter light from the embedded bright star (top) giving parts of the nebula a characteristic blue color. Ultraviolet light from the star is also thought to cause a dim reddish luminescence in the nebular dust. Although stars do form in molecular clouds, this star seems to have only accidentally wandered into the area, as its measured velocity through interstellar space is very different from the cloud's velocity

Cassiopee Constellation - The constellation of Cassiopeia - Cassiopeia, was seen in mythology as the seated Queen of Ethiopia (not to be confused with the modern AEthiopia). She was the wife of Cepheus and the mother of Andromeda, beautiful but boastful. The grouping of moderately bright stars has a distinctive 'W' shape and lies in a rather faint part of the northern Milky Way. It is circumpolar for latitudes north of 50*. Occupying almost 500 square degrees of sky it is the 25th largest of the 88 modern constellations
The Summer Triangle - Starry sky - Summer triangle - Star trails - The Summer Triangle; Dened du Swan, Vega de la Lyre and Altair de l'Eagle. Also visible are the constellation of the Fleche, the small constellation of the Dauphin (in the raz des rocks), on the left, Cephee, and on the upper right Hercules, then Ophiuchus. In overprint, the mythological forms of these constellations, extracted from the Uranographia of Hevelius. May 20, 2007, Ploumanach (Cotes d'Armor - France). The summer triangle (Deneb in Cygnus, Vega in Lyra and Altair in Aquila). Sagitta, Delphinus (at the bottom), Cepheus (left) Hercules and Ophiuchus (right) are also visible. Mythological Constellations forms from “” Uranographia”” star atlas by Hevelius (1690) have been added. May 20, 2007, Ploumanach (Cotes d'Armor - France)
Constellations of Andromede and Cassiopee - Andromeda and Cassiopeia constellations - Field around the constellations of Andromede and Cassiopee. From ancient times the constellation of Andromeda has represented a woman and in Greek mythology Andromeda was the daughter of Cepheus and Cassiopeia, king and boastful queen of the Phoenician kingdom of Ethiopia. As punishment for her mother's arrogance she was chained to a rock as a sacrifece to Cetus, then rescued by Perseus whom she subsequently married. The modern constellation is the 19th largest in the sky and covers about 720 square degrees but is not very obvious. The three brightest stars of Andromeda form a broad arc south of the distinctive 'W' of Cassiopeia, and under a dark sky the elongated shape of M32 is just visible to the unaided eye. This is by far the best - known object in the field. Best seen in the early evening in Novembe

Part of the constellation Swan - Cygnus Milky Way - The constellation Swan dominates the richest part of the Lactee Way during the summer in the northern hemisphere. The large nebula broadcast IC 1396 in Cephee is visible to the extreme left of the image. The large dark nebula Le Gentil 3 is visible between IC 1396 and NGC 7000, the Nebula of North America, next to Deneb (the brightest star in this picture). Underneath, a smaller dark nebula, B168. The constellation of Cygnus, the Swan, dominates the richest part of the Milky Way in the sky overhead during the summer in the northern hemisphere. This beautiful area is full of dust and gas and star froming regions. The large red emission nebula IC 1396 in Cepheus is at the far left of the frame. The large dark nebula Le Gentil 3 is between IC 1396 and NGC 7000, the North America Nebula next to Deneb. A smaller dark nebula, B168, can be seen below. Another large area of emission nebulae containing IC 1318, the Butterfly Nebula, surrounds Sadr. NGC 6992, the brighter half of the Veil Nebula is faintly visible near the bottom center. The beautiful double star Albireo lies at the head of the Swan. The great rift in the Milky Way, a large area of obscuring dark matter, dominates the right side of the frame in Vulpecula, with CR399, the Coathanger asterism, centered on it at right
Constellation Cassiopee - The constellation of Cassiopeia - The constellation of Cassiopeia, the Queen, is seen in this wide - angle shot spanning a field of about 16 x 24 degrees. This bright section of the Milky Way is strewn with thousands of individual stars, star clouds, dark nebulae, red emission nebulae, and glittering star clusters. As we look at Cassiopeia, we are looking out into one of the outer arms of our own Milky Way galaxy, and away from the galaxy's center in Sagittarius. The Double Cluster in Perseus (NGC 884 and NGC 869) and the Double Nebulae (IC 1805 and LBN 667) are at upper right. NGC 281, another emission nebula, is near Schedar (Alpha Cassiopeiae). IC 59 and IC 63 are two small faint nebulae near Gamma Cassiopeia, in the center of the constellation. Another very large complex of red emission nebulae, Ced 214 and NGC 7822 lie near the center of the bottom of the frame, and open cluster NGC 7789 is to the left of Caph. Open cluster M52 and NGC 7635, the Bubble Nebula, are at lower left. In mythology, Cassiopeia was married to Cepheus, the King, Their daughter was Andromeda, and her rescuer was Perseus
Nebula Sh2 - 155 in Cephee - The Cave Nebula The north is at top. The Cave Nebula is a faint region of Hii emission and surrounding dust in Cepheus constellation. This area is rich of colours and fine details. The central “” cave - like”” structure name the nebula, but notice also the subtle patch of blue reflection nebulosity all around in the field. The star colors are also beautiful, which adds a nice touch to this celestial field. This image is based on data acquired by the Oschin Telescope at the Mount Palomar Observatory

Nebula IC 1396 in Cephee infrared view - 18/12/2003 The large composite image on the left is a product of combining data from the observator's multiband imaging photometer and the infrared array camera. The thermal emission at 24 microns measured by the photometer (red) is combined with near - infrared emission from the camera at 3.6/4.5 microns (blue) and from 5.8/8.0 microns (green). The colors of the diffuse emission and filaments vary, and are a combination of molecular hydrogen (which tends to be green) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (brown) emissions. Nasa's Spitzer Space Telescope image of a glowing stellar nursery provides a spectacular contrast to the opaque cloud seen in visible light. The Elephant's Trunk Nebula is an elongated dark globule within the emission nebula IC 1396 in the constellation of Cepheus. Located at a distance of 2,450 light - years, the globule is a condensation of dense gas that is barely surviving the strong ionizing radiation from a nearby massive star. The globule is being compressed by the surrounding ionized gas. The dark globule is seen in silhouette at visible - light wavelengths, backlit by the illumination of a bright star located to the left of the field of view. The Spitzer Space Telescope pierces through the obscuration to reveal the birth of new protostars, or embryonic stars, and previously unseen young stars. The infrared image, was obtained by Spitzer's infrared array camera. The filamentary appearance of the globule results from the sculpting effects of competing physical processes. The winds from a massive star, located to the left of the image, produce a dense circular rim comprising the 'head' of the globule and a swept - back tail of gas
