A sketch at the central criminal court during the late trial of O'Connor'. At the Old Bailey, Arthur O'Connor (aged 18), was 'indicted for unlawfully presenting a pistol to the person of Our Lady the Queen, with intent to alarm her'. He was then sentenced to One Year's Imprisonment and Twenty Strokes with a Birch Rod. On the 29 February 1872, Arthur O'Connor scaled the wall of Buckingham Palace, and rushed Queen Victoria's carriage, hoping to force the Queen to sign an edict freeing all Irish political prisoners.
