Bentley 4.25 litre Drophead Coupe motor car, 1939. In the late 1920s, Bentley was the most prestigious British maker of sports cars. By 1931 however, the company had run into financial difficulties and had been taken over by Rolls-Royce, who continued to produce cars with the Bentley name. Theyæ introduced a 4.25 litre engine in 1936 and it quickly became the standard power unit for the cars. Over 1200 Bentley 4.25s were produced between 1936 and 1939.
