Charles Jervas (Dublin 1675 London 1739). Oil painting on canvas, The Hon. Catherine Crewe, Lady, Harpur (1682-1745) with a young child, probably her eldest son, later Sir Henry Harpur, 5th Bt. (17081748), by Charles Jervas (Dublin 1675 London 1739),1713. A three-quarter-length portrait, seated near an urn, a landscape with a triumphal arch back left. Three-quarter length portrait, full front. The child's face and arms visisble behind her lap. She wears a blue decollete dress over a white blouse, fastened with brooches in the front. Her dark hair is worn in tresses over her shoulders (inventory card). Daughter of Thomas, 2nd Baron Crewe, CAL/P/326, married Sir John Harpur, 4th Baronet in 1702. Probably the picture for which Jervas was paid £30 in 1713 (House Guide, last revised edition 1996). Calke Abbey, Derbyshire (Accredited Museum)
