Image description

The Red-billed Tropicbird is characterized by its pure white plumage, bright red bill, and greatly elongated, narrow central tail feathers. This elegant seabird species is widespread in tropical seas and breeds on remote islands such as Île de France (now Mauritius). As a skilled flyer, it can soar over the open sea for hours and plunges from the air into the water to catch fish. By martinet. From Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux. Planches enluminées d'histoire naturelle, drawn and engraved by F.N. Martinet under the supervision of E.L. Daubenton, Paris 1770 - 1786.
