Belagerung einer Burg. An Stelle der im fruhen Mittelalter zur Belagerung benutzten katapultartigen Steinwurfmaschinen traten schon im 14 und 15 Jahrh Feuergeschutze. Die ersten Kanonen waren haufig nur von eisernen Ringen zusammengehaltene Holzkanonen mit einem Zundloch. Die durch Explosion des Pulvers aus dem Rohr geschleuderte Steinkugel schlug Bresche in die Burgmauern. Translation: Siege of a Castle. In the 14th and 15th centuries, fire cannons took the place of the catapult-like stone-throwing machines used for sieges in the early Middle Ages. The first cannons were often only wooden cannons held together by iron rings with a fuze hole. The stone ball thrown out of the barrel by the explosion of the powder broke the castle walls.
