Aquarius Constellations, Capricorn, Austral Fish and Microscope - Constellations of Aquarius, Capricorn, Piscis Austrinus, Microscopium - Field around the Aquarius constellation. The Helix planetary nebula appears as a red dot towards the center of the image. Aquarius (The Water Carrier) is a large but relatively insconspicuous southern zodiacal constellation and has an area of about 980 square degrees, which makes it the 10th largest. Its origins as a constellation can be traced back to Babylonian times and has usually been delineated as a figure pouring water from a jar in the general direction of Capricornus and Piscis Austrinus, themselves quite watery constellations. The Sun is in this part of the sky in February and March, following the Ecliptic. The constellation embraces many objects of telescopic interest, including the Helix nebula and the Mira - like variable star R Aquarii. Also notable are the globular clusters M2 (NGC 7089) and the Saturn planetary nebula NGC 7009. Best seen in the early evening in August
Constellation of Circinus and southern constellations - Constellation of Circinus and southern constellations - The Southern Triangle constellations, the Fly, and the Southern Cross are also visible. Circinus (the drawing Comppass) is an inconspicuous constellation introduced by the French astronomer Nicolas Louis de Lacaille, who observed the southern sky from the Cape of Good Hope between 1750 and 1754. He named 14 constellations, many of them associated with science or navigation, such as Microscopium and Telescopium, Octans the Octant and Antlia Pneumatica, the air pump. Circinus contains no bright or named stars and covers 93 square degrees, making it the fourth - smallest. Triangulum Australe is the southern hemisphere counterpart of Triangulum. It is a bigger constellation and contains brighter stars than Triangulum and it never sets for most of Australia. Its brightest star is named Atria (for alpha Trianguli Australis), in the manner of Acrux in the Southern Cross. It is easily seen near a and ss Centaurus. Crux and Musca are also visible in this image

Galaxy ESO 69 - 6 - Galaxy ESO 69 - 6 - The galaxy ESO 69 - 6 is about 650 million light years away from Earth in the constellation of the Southern Triangle. This system consists of two interacting galaxies. Image obtained by the Hubble Space Telescope on April 8, 2002. ESO 69 - 6 is an interacting pair of galaxies located in the constellation of Triangulum Australe, the Southern Triangle, about 650 million light - years away from Earth. Long tidal tails sweep out from the two galaxies: gas and stars were stripped out and torn away from the outer regions of the galaxies. The presence of these tails is the unique signature of an interaction. Image taken by the Hubble space telescope on April 8, 2002
Galaxy ESO 99 - 4 - Galaxy ESO 99 - 4 - The special galaxy ESO 99 - 4 is about 400 million light years away from Earth in the constellation of the Southern Triangle. Its tormented shape suggests that it has absorbed another galaxy. Image obtained by the Hubble Space Telescope on April 13, 2002. ESO 99 - 4 is a galaxy with a highly peculiar shape that is probably the remnant of an earlier merger process that has deformed it beyond visual recognition, leaving the main body largely obscured by dark bands of dust. ESO 99 - 4 lies in a rich field of foreground stars, in the constellation of Triangulum Australe, the Southern Triangle, about 400 million light - years away. Image taken by the Hubble space telescope on April 13, 2002
Interacting galaxies in the Austral Fish - Interacting galaxies in Piscis Austrinus - The galaxies NGC 7173 (middle left), NGC 7174 (middle right) and NGC 7176 (bottom right) photographed here by the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), belong to a cluster of galaxies called Hickson Compact Group 90 (HCG 90), located about 100 million years ago lights in the constellation of Southern Fish. NGC 7173 and NGC 7176 are two elliptical galaxies while NGC 7174 is a spiral galaxy deformed by the gravitational forces exerted by its neighbors. The three pictured galaxies - - NGC 7173 (middle left), NCG 7174 (middle right) and NGC 7176 (lower right) - - are part of the Hickson Compact Group 90, named after astronomer Paul Hickson, who first catalogued these small clusters of galaxies in the 1980s. NGC 7173 and NGC 7176 appear to be smooth, normal elliptical galaxies without much gas and dust. In stark contrast, NGC 7174 is a mangled spiral galaxy, barely clinging to independent existence as it is ripped apart by its close neighbours. The strong tidal interaction surging through the galaxies has dragged a significant number of stars away from their home galaxies. These stars are now spread out, forming a tenuous luminous component in the galaxy group. This trio is part of a tight cluster of 16 galaxies, many of them being dwarf galaxies. The galaxy cluster Hickson Compact Group 90 lies about 100 million light - years away in the direction of the constellation Piscis Austrinus, the Southern Fish
