Bernard Carter was a painter and curator, born in London where he continued to live, married to the artist Eugenie Alexander. Carter was educated at Haberdashers’ Aske’s School, then Goldsmiths’ College School of Art. He went on to be keeper in charge of pictures and conservation at National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, retiring in 1977. With his wife he published Art for Young People. Had a solo show with Arthur Jeffress in 1955, then a long series with Portal Gallery. Also appeared at RA, British Council, Arts Council and abroad.
