Meetinghouse Hill, Roxbury, Massachusetts, 1799 by John Ritto Penniman. This is one of the oldest sections of Boston's historic Dorchester neighborhood. On top of the hill is the 3rd 'meetinghouse', constructed in 1743, of the First Parish Church (est. 1631). In the vicinity is the Cotton Mather School (est. 1639), the oldest public elementary school in North America, founded by the congregation of First Parish (oil on canvas)
