Who I am:
My name is Véronique Dubois, I am a French Photographer, born in Paris and living in London for the last 8 years. For as long as I can remember I have been interested in photography. I’ve always been very curious about the world around me, and this (almost subconsciously) led to what I do and where I am now. When I was a little girl I enjoyed reading novels, but also looking at the photos of cinema, music, art & travel magazines. Who I am:
My name is Véronique Dubois, I am a French Photographer, born in Paris and living in London for the last 8 years. For as long as I can remember I have been interested in photography. I’ve always been very curious about the world around me, and this (almost subconsciously) led to what I do and where I am now. When I was a little girl I enjoyed reading novels, but also looking at the photos of cinema, music, art & travel magazines. But as photography studies were too expensive for my family, and I wanted to do something related to photography and writing, I decided to study Graphic Design. After completing my studies, I worked for more than 10 years in an advertising agency in France as an art worker and picture librarian. Even though I really enjoyed this work which surrounded me with beautiful photographs, the dream of being a photographer always remained alive in my mind. Then in 2005 I decided to leave France and start a new life in London.
As I wanted to discover the city, meet new friends, and connect with this town, I decided to buy a new camera and went for long, long walks across London and the UK, visiting, looking at people, going to concerts and poetry festivals asking if I could take photos. I began to meet people who liked my photos and asked me to work with them again. Some of my work started to be published online. In the day time I was still working for a publishing company in London at this time, taking photos in the evenings just for the passion.
And that’s when the magic started to happen
Over the course of the last 4 years I have had the opportunity to take photos at music concerts like Paul Weller at The Roundhouse and at Poetry Olympics festivals organised by British beat poet Michael Horovitz. I’ve also been a still photographer during the video clip of Skunk Anansie “This Is Not A Game”, as well as being invited to some recording sessions.
The most impressive part of an assignment was being invited to take photos of Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Paul Weller & Michael Horovitz for the cover of their album “Bankbusted Nuclear Detergent Blues” and the Record Day single “Ballade of the Nocturnal Commune”, both released on Gearbox Records. Some of these pictures have been published in music magazine NME.
From October 2012 to October 2013, I have been working as a free-lance photographer for the iconic London music venue The Borderline in Soho, who use my photos for promotional purposes in their social media on a regular basis. It has given me the chance to compile a comprehensive music photography portfolio.
