Daniel Maclise (1806-1870), also known as Alfred Croquis, was an Irish painter and illustrator. He was born in Cork, Ireland, and studied at the Cork School of Art before moving to London in 1827. Maclise became a member of the Royal Academy in 1840 and was known for his historical and literary paintings, including scenes from Shakespeare's plays and the works of Sir Walter Scott. He also created illustrations for books and magazines, such as Charles Dickens' "The Pickwick Papers" and "A Christmas Carol."
