Micaela Antohi is an Italian contemporary artist.<br> <br> Born in Bruxelles from a Romanian father and Italian mother, she studied stage Design at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Rome and spent long periods in the South of Italy, the US, the Caribbeans and Asia. She currently lives in the UK.<br> <br> A trip to Romania in 1968 inspired her to paint. On that trip Micaela was struck by the chromatic beauty and simplicity of the icones painted on glass.<br> <br> Colour has been at the basis for her work. The brilliance that the glass gave the colours and the essential simplicity of the symbolism of the icones are at the root of her style.<br> <br> Through the continuous exploration of colour she moved from religious scenes to representations of the traditions of Southern Italian people and their farming culture. Then came more exotic scenes from her time in the Carribean and Asia. The South of England has inspired many of her more recent paintings.<br> <br> The positive brilliance of the colours remains at the centre of all her art. Its luminosity and brilliance is adapted to reflect the light of the country she paints.<br> <br> Micaela loves to experiment with different media and techniques - from glass to wood panel, to fabric, to paper, to linocuts.<br> <br> Amongst others, her work has been exhibited in solo shows in Rome and Bruxelles as well as numerous group exhibitions in Italy, Switzerland, France, Belgium, UK and the US. Her iconic representation of the four evangelists adorns St Gabriele Church in Rome and, six glass icons are in “The Holy Ghost”,Catholic Church in Crowthorne, Berkshire, England. The simplicity and colours have meant that Micaela's work has been chosen to be reproduced on ceramic houseware objects.<br> <br> Many of her works feature in private collections.<br> <br> ...
