Tsuguharu Foujita was a Japanese-French painter and printmaker born in Tokyo in 1886. He studied at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music before moving to Paris in 1913, where he became part of the avant-garde art scene. Foujita's work was heavily influenced by traditional Japanese art, as well as the European art movements of the time, such as Cubism and Fauvism. He is best known for his portraits of women, which often feature a distinctive white-on-black line style.
