Cecil Beaton (1904-1980) was a British photographer, designer, and writer. He was born in Hampstead, London, and attended the University of Cambridge. Beaton began his career as a photographer in the 1920s, working for Vogue and Vanity Fair. He became known for his portraits of celebrities, including Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and the British royal family. In addition to his photography work, Beaton was also a costume and set designer for films and stage productions. He won Academy Awards for his work on the films Gigi and My Fair Lady.
