Larry Bell was born in Chicago in 1939 and spent his student days and early career in California. In 1973, he moved to Taos, New Mexico, which has a standing tradition as an artists' colony. Having been a painter and printmaker, his interests soon turned to sculpture and he developed a life-long fascination with what he terms "interface of light and surface", working with reflective surfaces, particularly glass, edges and corners.
