The zandes (or niam niam, a tribe of Central Africa, divided between the Congo, Sudan and the Central African Republic) melomane hunters, playing mangala (musical instrument between harp and mandolin), whose practice is very common among men, traditionally accompanies a recitative, the listeners call the monotonous melody by a beating of the head, until plunging into a deep ecstasy, engraving after O.Mathieu's drawing, illustrating a journey to the heart of Africa, in 1868-1871, by Dr. George Schweinfurth, published in “” Le tour du monde””” 1874, edited by Edouard Charton, Hachette edition, Paris.
