Leopoldo Metlicovitz was an Italian artist born in Trieste in 1868. He is best known for his iconic poster designs, which helped to establish the Art Nouveau style in Italy. Metlicovitz studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna before moving to Milan, where he worked as a graphic designer for various advertising agencies. In 1899, he began working for the Italian publishing house Ricordi, where he created some of his most famous posters, including the iconic image of the singer Carmen Miranda.
