Angus Forbes was born in Melbourne Australia and studied photography at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Coming to London in the mid-1960s, he worked as assistant to photographers Adrian Olins and John Piercy.
Forbes’ first employment as photographer came in 1966 at the Southwark plant of the Metal Box Company, where he shot illustrations for food packaging. After
a spell working in established photographic concerns in the capital, he went freelance in 1971, opening his own studio two years later in Chancery Lane, London. Shooting mainly still life for the press and graphic arts Angus Forbes was born in Melbourne Australia and studied photography at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Shooting mainly still life for the press and graphic arts trades, he concentrated on multiple-exposure commissions, trading under the name Dirty Tricks Department. As such he went on to photograph many campaigns for the advertising agencies of Britain, Europe and the US. He retired from photography in 2010.
Interspersed with his commercial work, Forbes frequently undertook commissions in the music, film and fine arts field. It is from these portfolios that the current Bridgeman collection has been culled.
