Leslie Matthew Ward was a British artist and caricaturist born on November 21, 1851, in London, England. He was the son of the famous artist Edward Matthew Ward and the grandson of the renowned painter James Ward. Leslie Ward was best known for his caricatures of prominent figures in Victorian society, which he published in the magazine Vanity Fair under the pseudonym "Spy." He began his career as a journalist and illustrator for various publications before joining Vanity Fair in 1873.
