Predominantly oil on panel, his work features a Jack Russel dog (Barton Darcy), and his owner, (Garfield Eldritch). Simple ditties accompany the work - 4 line poems about the world as the dog sees it. Often described as naive or quirky, his paintings usually feature the British east coast with occasional trips to say, London or Cambridge for variety. Landscape and vernacular architecture feature heavily as a backdrop, and humour is often evident. “I like to give people a grin if I can”.
The paintings are usually ‘modular’, 12” squares or 12 x 18” landscape gessoed panels. “I prefer to paint on panel as opposed to canvas because I find it more forgiving. You don’t have a canvas tooth to worry about and painting on it isn’t as spongey”. Chris uses a large palette of quality oil colours, the observant may have noticed that Chris sometimes mixes metallics (silver, copper or gold) into the paint. "I find it makes things shimmer - Particularly the sea, and it shows quite well after varnishing”. He normally tray-frames his work in either black or white; usually white.
You can find his work in numerous galleries in Norfolk, Suffolk & Bedfordshire, and his work has been published as greetings cards and limited edition prints. ...
