John Everett Millais (1829-96) was a prominent English painter and illustrator who co-founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, a group of artists who sought to revive the spirit of early Italian Renaissance art. Born in Southampton, Millais showed an early talent for drawing and painting, and at the age of 11, he became the youngest student ever to attend the Royal Academy Schools in London.
