Senator Henry Clay in 1843 portrait by Theodore Sidney Moise. In 1844 he was the leader of the Whig Party and its Presidential nominee against the Democrat, James Knox Polk. Clay returned to his career as an attorney in Lexington, Kentucky (oil on canvas)
